Arguing In History > About The Project

Arguing in history is a research project based at the Open University and funded by the ESRC (Ref no - RES-000-22-1453).

In March 2006 Year 9 pupils from two schools discussed the reasons for the rise of the Nazis within an asynchronous text based computer conference.

The researchers’ aim was to explore the impact conferencing had on the development of the students’ arguing skills in history.

The project team has now analysed the students’ posts and essays. A report of the project is available at (www.esrcsocietytoday.ac.uk).

Please also see Papers and Articles which we will add to over the next six months. For related research see (http://argumentation-hsc.open.ac.uk)
